The Photography of Donna M. Doney

Meet the Artist this Saturday!
Showing through September 21, 2019.

Artist Statement
I have always been drawn to the environment and the spirit of the natural world. I grew up in Pennsylvania, but every summer we vacationed at the beach in New Jersey. I learned to love and
explore nature at an early age, collecting shells, creating collages, sketching and painting. It was the beginning of my journey to see nature and create art. Today, I am still on that quest to experience and
understand the natural world.

As a landscape photographer, my goal is to explore, analyze and take in the beauty of the earth’s composition, structure and processes. As an artist, I want to visually capture the essence of the environment and communicate my vision of the natural world by extracting images that evoke a sense of place and transport the viewer into the environment I am photographing. If I am successful, I believe that the image will speak to the viewer and stimulate emotion. I am truly passionate in this quest to communicate the visual beauty of the natural world and hope that viewers of my work will come to appreciate the wonderful complexities of this planet and help to preserve it.

With my photographs, I feel connected to what once existed, as if the plants, trees, mountains and oceans hold memories of the past. The photographs connect me to moments in time as I tell their stories. These images of earth and sky, day and night, calm and storm, reality and fantasy become forever real once they are photographed.

About the Artist: I am a certified K – 12 Art Teacher. I have a B.F.A in Communication Design and a Certificate in Art Education. I have taught elementary school Art and Art History for 15 years and am currently pursuing my passion for photography. I am currently an educator in the Special Ed Department in the San Bruno School District, using art as a pathway to connect with my students.
