“Have Gun, Will Travel”

This work by Elizabeth Marshall is on plaster coated canvas and combines acrylic paintings on muslin and the blue photographic process Cyanotype, which is printed with UV light.

“Have Gun, Will Travel,” deals with transition, displacement, the idea of family and roots and essentially where one hangs their hat is their home. Elements of the lonely road that people sometimes take, be it for work, by force or in order to hopefully get to a better place are exemplified in the modes of travel craft depicted in the images. The portraits are of real people whose stories are unknown to Marshall but resonate in the sense that one never knows another’s life story and it is important to remember never to make assumptions about another’s truth.

Marshall was raised in Alaska, graduated San Francisco State University with a degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in Photography.
